چکیده

Maize (Zea mays L.) is the most important cereal crop on which many smallholder farmers in sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) depend as a sole source of calories, proteins, and vitamins. However, conventional maize deficient two essential amino acids, lysine, tryptophan. Thereafter, Quality Protein (QPM) developed to combat protein malnutrition. In SSA low soil nitrogen also limiting factor production productivity. To determine combining ability QPM inbred lines for grain yield other agronomic traits under optimum N environments, 121 genotypes generated using 11 complete diallel mating design with 5 checks were evaluated both environments at 3 locations 2018 cropping season. Significant differences observed among major characters environments. Under non-additive gene actions more than additive action yield, number ears per plant, plant ear height, length diameter. contributions reciprocal effects GCA aspect, Parental TL156579, TL156583, TL148288 considered good general combiner line TL156612 showed higher positive when used female while parental negative male parent   Key words: Complete diallel, ability, nitrogen, quality maize, effect,

Combining ability and testcross performance of drought‐tolerant maize inbred lines under stress and non‐stress environments in Kenya

Drought and poor soil fertility are among the major abiotic stresses affecting maize productivity in sub-Saharan Africa. Maize breeding efforts at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) have focused on incorporating drought stress tolerance and nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) into tropical maize germplasm. The objectives of this study were to estimate the general combining ...

Combining Ability among Twenty Insect Resistant Maize inbred lines Resistant to Chilo partellus and Busseola fusca Stem borers

A partial diallel design was used among 20 maize inbred lines to form 110 F1 hybrids to generate information on the values of these lines for developing insect resistant maize varieties during the short rains season of 2006. The hybrids were evaluated for resistance to the C. partellus and B. fusca, and for agronomic performance over two seasons during long and short rains of 2007 at a mid-alti...

T Evaluation of genes effect and combining ability in selected maize (Zea mays L.) lines

Maize is one of the most important grain and forage plants that has a unique role in the food and feed, especially poultry feed. To study the genetic effects, genes act and identify the best hybrid combination for morphological traits, experiment was carried out in diallel cross layout using 19 parents at Gorgan Agricultural Research Station, Iran in 2013. The progenies were planted in three re...

Effects of field conditions, low nitrogen and drought on genetic parameters of protein and tryptophan concentrations in grain of quality protein maize

Quality Protein Maize (QPM) has about twice the amount of lysine and tryptophan of normal maize and hence represents an important tool of correcting its deficiency in protein quality. However, the effects of low nitrogen and drought on genetic parameters such as gene action and combining abilities of protein quantity and quality of QPM are not known. To study how these genetic parameters are af...
